Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

At Ocean Shores Public School, Special Religious Eductaion (SRE or scripture), Special Ethics Education (SEE) and non-scripture classes for K-6 operate every Tuesday between 10:30am and 11am.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE and SEE participation letter to complete and return.

After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE/SEE should be given to the office in writing.

Scripture

Ocean Shores Public School offers Combined Scripture classes and Catholic Scripture classes. Children are welcome to attend eith of these classes which focus on Christian teachings.

Catholic Scripture includes teachings of the Catholic faith and a link with the local parish for families wishing their children to receive the sacraments.

The curriculum is Bible-based and students engage with the truths of the Bible week by week through music, drama, reading and writing, puzzle solving, drawing and asking questions.

Primary Ethics

Ocean Shores Public School also offers classes in philosophical ethics as an option for non-scripture students.

Primary Ethics is the DEC approved provider that runs ethics classes at our school via trained volunteers from our community.

Classes are capped at 22 students and the number of classes is subject to teacher availability.

Non Scripture Classes

If you do not want your child to participate in any form of Special Religious Education or Special Ethics Education, your child will attend non-scripture.

The school provides appropriate supervision for students not attending SRE/SEE.

Students will be involved in non-structured activities, which may include reading, free drawing etc, but not timetabled lessons or other scheduled school activities.
